SB 1470 Senator Burgess
School Safety
Senate Bill 1470 by Senator Burgess was heard this week and addresses school safety and security
measures. The legislation requires Sheriffs to either provide or waive training for security guards, issue
certification, and maintain related documentation. Additionally, it directs the Department of Education
to develop a centralized system that integrates panic alert systems with digital school maps.
To support the mapping requirements, the bill includes a $450,000 budget allocation. SB 1470 passed
the Senate Fiscal Policy Committee and is now headed to the Special Order Calendar for consideration
on the Senate floor.
It was a busy week and we expect the beginning of next week to busy and then slow down for
budget negotiations.
