HB 317 Advances After Heated Debate
Representative Tom Fabricio presented HB 317 before the House Governmental Operations
Committee, where, true to her word, Chair Dana Trabulsy Chaney allowed the bill to be heard. After
lengthy debate and strong opposition from both the Florida Police Chiefs Association and the
Florida Sheriffs Association, the bill passed and now moves to its final stop in the House: the House
Judiciary Committee, scheduled to meet on April 17th.
Although deemed highly controversial, the bill received strong support from law enforcementfriendly legislators, who defended its core principle—protecting officers from the long-term
impact of unsubstantiated allegations.
