Rest In Peace

We are heartbroken by the tragic
events that occurred at Florida State
University. Our thoughts are with the
victims, their families, and the entire
FSU community as they process the
shock and grief of this senseless act.
The FOP Legislative Committee remains hard at work, continuing to advocate for Florida’s law
enforcement and corrections officers.
This week, FOP Lodge 20 President Felix Del Rosario, District 4 Director Michael Kelley, FOP Outer
Guard Jim Sniffen, and Legislative Committee Member David Stevens of Lodge 530 arrived in
Tallahassee to help advance three of the Fraternal Order of Police's priority issues. They also
spent time strategizing ways to push additional critical law enforcement legislation forward
during the session.
Despite strong efforts, each legislative chamber has encountered challenges—many
proposals are passing in one chamber but stalling in the other. These hurdles are largely due
to time constraints caused by numerous special sessions and ongoing political disputes.
While we celebrated legislative victories in the House this week, Thursday took a tragic turn
with the active shooter incident at Florida State University. Both the Capitol and FSU were
placed on lockdown as a large law enforcement presence responded swiftly and effectively.
Tragically, two individuals lost their lives, and six others were hospitalized. The suspect, a 20year-old, is recovering at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Media reports have noted that he is
the son of an 18-year law enforcement veteran and was formerly a member of the Leon County
Sheriff’s Office Youth Advisory Council.
Our hearts go out to all those affected by this senseless act. We remain committed to
supporting our members and their families, especially in moments of crisis.
