Session Week 9
2025
The final week of the
2025
Session—once
expected to be the last—
began with a solemn
moment of unity: the
Fraternal Order of Police
Annual Law Enforcement
Memorial.
Despite
ongoing tensions and
partisan
disputes,
several legislators took
time to honor Florida’s
fallen
officers.
In
attendance
were
Senator Tom Wright and
Representatives
Meg
Weinberger,
Yvette
Benarroch,
Robin
Bartleman, Jose Alvarez,
Peggy
GossettSeidman, Lindsay Cross,
Jennifer Tendrich, and
Leonard Spencer.
The conclusion of this year’s legislative session remained uncertain until nearly the final
moments. Just after 10 p.m., the House filed HCR 1631, officially extending the 2025 Session
until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025. Lawmakers are expected to return to Tallahassee
the week of May 12 to resolve major disagreements over tax proposals and the state
budget. All other pending legislation will be indefinitely postponed and will die on the
calendar.
Throughout the week, legislative gridlock intensified as the House, Senate, and Governor’s
Office clashed over policy priorities. Dozens of bills were caught in a political crossfire,
with each chamber refusing to approve the other's legislation in a back-and-forth
stalemate. Tensions rose to new levels, with partisan bickering and public finger-pointing
spilling beyond the budget debate and into broader legislative efforts.
