We have completed Week Two of the Florida Legislative Session for 2025. The past week was
highlighted as Florida Professional Firefighters Week. Their full delegation was present to advocate
for their interests and priorities. For the FOP, this was a week of support gathering and information
sharing.
House Bill 383, one of our watched bills, has made significant progress. HB 383 provides an
exemption for law enforcement officers, which will eliminate the mandatory 3-day waiting period
for firearm purchases. Current statute allows for a concealed carry permit holder to purchase a
firearm without the mandatory waiting period; this bill gives law enforcement officers that same
ability. Last week the House Bill passed the Criminal Justice Subcommittee with a vote of 18 Yeas
and 0 Nays. This week the Bill passed the Judiciary Subcommittee with a vote of 21 Yeas and 0
Nays.
The Senate version of the Bill, SB 490, has passed the Criminal Justice Committee, and is headed
for Appropriations.
